"Once there was a tree...and she loved a little boy." This begins a story with an unforgettable plot and story line. A young boy and tree form a bond that can never be broken, as proven by events in the story. This book offers an affective interpretation of the gift of giving and a glimpse of the ability of one's capacity to love. This story is a great read-aloud for all ages and offers children a unique perspective about relationships. This book would be fantastic to read and then facilitate a discussion on character traits that are seen in both the boy and the tree. The students could then compare and contrast the character traits using a Venn Diagram.
